Who I Am?

What Sets Me Apart

I am a Native American storyteller and writer, recognizable in Native communities for my creative work for nearly fifty years. Storytelling standards of Native people have always guided my processes and techniques, even though I have two university degrees. My professional life has included being a college professor, publisher, and public speaker. Writing prose and poetry comes first in my heart but I also write creative non-fiction, research, etc.

Find an incomplete list of published titles here; a few are accessible online. Soje Publishing, my other website, invites creative works from other Native writers. The Native American storytelling and writing circle is small amongst larger populations, but it is the main group to whom I send my stories. An absorbing story transcends all boundaries, generations, and time and space. Here’s to its power.

Greetings! As a storyteller and writer from Native America, my creative work has deep connections to the soil, water, and sky. These sustain us and convey wisdom through their keepers—the storytellers. Being a child of two Native American groups, each with rich prehistories and storytelling traditions, presents a rewarding opportunity to highlight those visions of being and their place in my work. Despite my many years of writing and achieving some success, sharing the teachings in Native American stories won’t end, for the Earth keeps renewing, and its stories replay.
That magic is knowledge for everyone. Enter the stories with me and discover what the natural forces reveal about themselves and ourselves and how we interact.
